Zammad Diary | Mirta Spitzer: with the laptop on the surfboard

From which location are you currently working? – Mirta often hears this question from her team because her webcam background changes regularly in our stand-up meetings. In an interview, she tells us how she perfectly combines her love for travel and adventure with her role in the product team.

What is your name and position at Zammad?
My name is Mirta and I'm part of the product team.

What are you known for?
Always traveling and always good travel tricks at hand 😊

What are you working on right now?
Currently, I'm working on strategic goals from a product perspective and also on internal processes for implementing new feature requests.

What new things have you learned on the job lately?
I recently learned what REST is. Since I don't have an IT background, I learn something new every day. It's sometimes challenging, but mostly exciting and a part of the job I really appreciate!

What motivates you every morning?
Movement! I'm one of those people who can't sit still. 😅 The worst thing for me is getting out of bed and sitting down at the laptop immediately. So, whether it's three hours of surfing or just a ten-minute walk, the main thing is to get some fresh air and move.

What do you love most about remote work? (And what not so much?)
I love the flexibility and the location independence. However, I sometimes miss the personal interaction with colleagues, as knowledge exchange isn't as straightforward in a remote setting.

What does your desk look like?
I don't like sitting at desks 😬 Due to my travels, my workspace is constantly changing: sometimes in a cafe, sometimes at home, sometimes in a co-working space. A change of scenery is a must for me.

Do you have a passion that wouldn't be obvious from your resume?
I really enjoy drawing - I think that's something about me that often surprises people. Otherwise, everything related to sports, especially surfing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, and spending time in nature.

What inspires you?
During my travels, I've learned that those who have the least are often the most generous and kind-hearted. You don't need a lot of money to do good and be there for each other.

What is great teamwork for you?
Sensitivity, understanding for one another, and a willingness to compromise are essential for a healthy team. We don't always have to agree, but at the end of the day, everyone must pull together.

What would you do if money was no problem?
I would open a small art café next to a surf beach somewhere in the tropics.

You have 1,000 unread messages and only time to reply to 50. How do you react?
1,000?! Close the program and never open it again. --> Install Zammad.

How do you evaluate your personal success?
Satisfaction. No amount of money, job, or career in the world should be called 'success' if we have to break ourselves to achieve it and end up unhappy. I am successful when I am content with what I have, and my happiness isn't dependent on material things.

How do you explain to your parents where and what you work as?
Something to do with software.

What gets you out of bed every morning and not just working from your bed?
My back. I try it on lazy days occasionally, but after 10 minutes, it's so uncomfortable that I always end up getting up anyway. 😄
